1853 - A big Thank You
A big thank you to everybody involved in yesterday's LESC open meet.
As this was my first as chair I had a lot to learn. I was truly amazed at everybody's hard work and I have now seen first hand what it takes to make a great gala. Everybody from gala makers, parents and swimmers should be very proud of themselves and I send a huge thank you to all for making this such a success.
We have a great gallery of photos of the whole day. So take a look at www.jmsphotography.co.uk to see yourself in action. If you like what you see and buy a picture every photo purchased will help benefit the club.
Well done to all the swimmers who succeeded in what they aimed to achieve. Whether it was your first gala, a win or a PB you should all be justifiably proud.
I am proud to be part of this club!

Blog 1852: LESC Open Meet
What a great day of swimming yesterday from all of the LESC crowd that were there. With 60 swimmers competing across the day we had a great team spirit and one I would like to continue through County Championships so please get your forms in as a matter of urgency.
The day saw a lot of different objectives across the club being met. From Juniors competing in their first gala to age groupers smashing their PB's out of the part, and the youth and seniors learning to race tough when tired. As a club we got everything we needed from this well run event.
A big congratulations to both Mimi Robersts and Maddie Walker who join, Adam Freundlich, Ben Saunders, Ryan Cendrowski, Callum Henley, Helen Gorman, Gregory Cox, Alex King, Hannah Cox, Eden Michell, Jo Parker, Erin Dilks, Sian James, Esther Halford, Hannah Dowell and Katie Sloan as Regional championship qualifiers just from the home programme.
As a coach I am always looking for improvements made and areas we need to improve on. Yesterday saw a big step forward in how swimmers at this club "self manage". The pre pool warm ups were better but still need more focus in certain areas and that will come from arriving on time for your sessions, that is 20 minutes prior to you getting in the pool so you can do your pre pool programme. After the races some swimmers were foam rolling and stretching to enable them to continue to compete at a high level throughout the day, this was need especially in the absence of a warm down pool. Nutritionally I saw a vast improvement in the intake of fluids again whilst our performance levels were maintain, other clubs who are not so keen on nutrition performances dipped later in the day and our swimmers food choices were far superior with swimmers realising that the cakes etc were for after the competition had finished and choosing to eat wisely during the day with very few crisps or chocolates being consumed. As for an area we can improve on the main one was Back to Breast turns. I have posted videos of the turns we started to practice this morning on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/127321507349377/ .
All in all it was a very successful day and a big thank you goes out to all the volunteers that helped out, and nice to hear some decent music during warm ups for a change.

Blog 1847: 12 week Tests
Its that time again for the 12 week tests so make sure you miss other activities for these test, we hear alot that "I have to miss training because of xyz" so this time tell your other activities that you have to miss them because of swimming. These test are vital as it helps us keep a track of progress, see areas for improvement and sort out who is ready for moves. Without full data we cannot do this.
On a side note DX have just released minimum Kick performance to enter their DXDS squad this is something we will be introducing to go along side our current criteria for moves, so time to work hard on your kick.

Blog 1846: Competitive Starts
With County Championships fast approaching Development squad and the top end of LTS will be doing the competitive start awards over the next 3 weeks. Here is Melissa's email regarding this.
hi all
starting on Sunday 26th of January for 3 weeks
we will be coaching the pre-competitive and competitive diving award for the swimmers with a certificate available to purchase at the end if you wish.
all of development and learn to swim blue's and white's will be participating with some children being asked to attend one if not two earlier sessions for a little more help, (these children don't yet have the concept of tip not fall) these will be told personally, by text,or e-mail who they are.
we are hoping that 3 weeks will be sufficient and if needed any not quite achieving the desired standard will be offered more time too complete.
my development swimmers will be warming up in the pool from 18.00 till approx 18.20 and then the learn to swim will rejoin us for the remainder of the time, we have quite alot to cover and there will be quite alot of children but I have myself with Ian, Gareth, Chris and Steve to help me.
the children will need another towel and the learn to swim children will need extra juice.
the diving award whilst essential for competition is also a chance for competitive swimmers to achieve something whilst they're waiting to compete in competition.
I am also aware that if maybe a parent or a couple of parents would like to get involved we may be able to look at other awards for the swimmers which are dedicated to the competitive side of swimming but this not an easy job and is quite time consuming collecting monies and getting participation I'm willing to deliver the training etc for the awards but I'm unable to chase the monies if youre intrested could you let either myself or Ian know and we'll go from there.

Blog 1838 : Timekeepers Course
A Timekeepers course is being run by Helen Akers on Sunday 19th Jan from 5 - 6pm in the upstairs cafe area at West Park. This will be the theory session, which you can then follow up with the practical session at our Open Meet on the following Sunday, the 26th Jan, where you can shadow one of our official timekeepers for the day.
This is a great opportunity to become an official time keeper for your club. We really need more qualified officials to help out at team galas and open meets in the future, and this timekeepers course is your chance to get on the first rung of the Officials ladder and help your club.
If you could let me know by email if you are interested in joining Helen on Sunday for her Timekeepers course, then she will know how many people to expect. Please feel free to turn up on Sunday to see Helen, especially if you have a child who swims during this time at West Park!

Blog 1837: Leicester League Review
Long Eaton
travelled to Braunstone on Saturday to take part in the first round of the
Leicester League. Many of the swimmers had represented the club in Division 3
of the Arena League before Christmas ,but found that the competition in this
Division One to be a lot stronger, and consequently found it a lot tougher racing against such
strong opponents.
On the night
there were only two swimmers who won their individual races. Eden Michell
powered home to win the first race of the evening. This was her debut
appearance for the club and Eden showed what a valuable acquisition she is
going to be.
Hannah Cox also
enjoyed similar success in the Open 100m breaststroke. Having opened up an
early lead, Hannah did well to hold off the opposition in a close finish.
Megan Smart
swam strongly to gain second place in both the girls 14/15 breaststroke and
freestyle races. Second places went to two swimmers in the Open Mens age group:
Steve Barrett in the 100m freestyle and Ryan Cendrowski in the 100m fly.
Bradley Evans also gained an impressive second place in the Boys 11/Under 50m
breaststroke.
In the relays
Ryan and Steve were joined by Chris Stray and Daniel Sloan to gain second place
in the Open freestyle relay, whilst Eden and Hannah were joined by Hannah
Dowell and Beth Dennis to take second place in the Open Medley relay.
A special
mention must go to Hannah Dodic, who
came in as a late replacement and swam an impressive leg in both her relays on
what was her first gala for the club.
Although at the
end of the evening Long Eaton found
themselves in 6th place when the final results were announced there
were a number of positive points the swimmers can take from this gala. There was certainly a big improvement in the
first phase of most races, with swimmers reacting quickly off the blocks and
being competitive on the initial underwater phase and into their stroke. Particularly pleasing was the team spirit and determination
showed by all swimmers in the face of such strong opponents .
Finally Bob and
Kaye would like to thank the team managers and officials for all their hard work, and thank parents
for their support.
Gala Results.
