Blog 1969: Long Eaton Carnival 21st June

We are holding a stall at Long Eaton Carnival on Saturday 21st June.  Please can everyone look to see if they have any items that we could use for our tombola, we can accept any items but no glass.
Please let you squad rep or myself have your items by the 16th June.

We also need all you bakers to bake some yummy yummy cakes, please can you let us have these either Friday 20th at Trent or West Park, or on the day Saturday 21st June either at West Park, or directly to us on the stall. Please clearly label your containers if you want them back and also label your cakes, cookies, etc so we know what they are. If any items contain nuts please also mark this too.

We are always looking for helpers on the day, even if you can spare an hour this would be appreciated.

This is a great fun raising day and all your donations will help the club.

Thank you

Debbie

Blog 1968: New Executive Officer Appointments

Following last year's AGM where a number of committee posts remained unfilled, and a subsequent resignation, the committee has now co-opted members to fill the following Executive Officer roles with immediate effect:

Chair         Duane Rae-McLean
Secretary   Beth Torrington

I am sure you will all join me in wishing them both well in their new roles, as the club continues to work towards a successful future.

Blog 1966: World cup score cast - what number blog is this?

To raise funds towards the swim camp we are holding a world cup scorecast. Points are awarded for correct results and scores and the person with the most points wins an amazing 60% of the takings. At £5 a go if we sell 100 sheets the winner will get £300. All entries are to be in by 10th June prior to the start of the world cup. So have a go and get your friends family and work mates to have a go as well, the more in it the bigger the prize. Sheets are on the noticeboard at West Park.

Blog 1967: Northampton

A group of swimmers went to Northampton this weekend for their Spring Festival. In hot conditions the swimmers showed great professional behaviour and swam excellently. Lana Dilks won her first ever level 1 Bronze and Josh Beech got his Regional time in the 100 fr making 24 qualifiers, the most in the club's history and 1/3 of all swimmers eligible to qualify in the junior and youth squads, which is the highest percentage in the region. If you add in our DX swimmers we'll have around the same number of swimmers at regionals as Nova, proving our pathway is the best around so stick with it.

Blog 1965: Swimming Times

The Club has an annual subscription to the Swimming Times - the official Magazine of the ASA and British Swimming. By buying your copy through the Club it is at the bargain price of £22 for the year's 12 copies instead of £29.

Please contact me if you wish to be included in the subscription for the comming year, starting with the July copy due out the middle of June.

Blog 1961:Midland Youth Championships

Last weekend saw several Long Eaton swimmers compete at Midland Youth Championships under both Long Eaton and DX. For a full list of results as they happened check out our twitter @LESCnews (which has just been retweeted by USA swimming and a club in Australia).

Whilst we sat next to our team mates based at DX (swimmers represent DX at Regional and National competitions and their home club at other meets including team galas and Club Championships etc), it was clear to see that outside the big 5 County Squads (Nova, City of Leicester, City of Birmingham, Northampton and DX) we had one of the largest club representations there.

Competing at Corby, which, long course, is not as fast a pool as Ponds Forge, etc., I took the coaching decision not to taper for this event. This did not detract from our performance as a club at this meet as we made 4 finals (Helen Gorman 100 and 200 Breast, Hannah Dowell 50 Free, Jo Parker 50 Back) and collected 4 firsts with Helen winning the 100 and 200 breast in the 19 and over age group and the "legend" himself, Gregory Cox, winning the 50 breast and 100 free in the S14 category. This gave us our most successful Regional Championships ever and with DX having their most succesful Championships ever support by Long Eaton-based swimmers, this is further proof that, for Derbyshire swimmers, the Partnership and Pathway between DX and Long Eaton are working well.

Blog 1956: A message from Kaye

Can I just say a big thank you to everyone who I coached, met and worked alongside at Long Eaton Swimming Club for the past 3 and a half years. I have met some truly lovely people and coached some talented swimmers, some who are just beginning their journey and some who have continued to progress and are now making their mark!
Thanks for all of the kind words, cards and gifts J1 and J2, and a big thanks to Spen and the coaching team for all of your support!
Keep up the good work everyone, and I wish you and your families all the very best for the future! Take care and thanks again -  Kaye x
