Blog 2141: End of an era

Today we say fairwell and thank you to Bob Cherry as a coach within the Long Eaton Swimming Club.

 

Bob has been a valued member of the club, poolside coaching assistant and squad coach since the club's formation from the merger of Trident and Treonte (the club Bob originally joined)

 

Bob's decision comes on the back of the squad restruture earlier this year.

 

An open invitation has been extended to Bob to join us poolside at training or competitions at any point.

 

Bob our sincerest thanks for all of your hard working and lasting contribution to the club.

Blog 2140: Named Hats

The order for the named hats is being placed today to meet the Christmas ordering deadline.

However, the price is higher than previous orders - ranging from £12.50 for one hat to £11.50 per hat for 3 or more with the same name.

There will be NO training on Saturday morning 7.30am to 9.00 am at West Park or on Sunday afternoon at Queens Street 4pm till 6pm. Loughborough session is also cancelled to a gala taking place there.

Blog 2132: West Park Closure

Some of you will be aware that the pool at West Park will be closing for essential maintenance from mid December through to the middle of January.

We have been working to develop alternative training arrangements to cover this period, details of which will be published next week.

Any reduction in pool time will be compensated with either additional landbased training or make up sessions, again these details will be within the plans.

Blog 2128: Donations for Presentation Night Hampers

To those people that have kindly agreed to donate items for the hampers, could these items be provided by Tuesday the 18th November please.

The hampers will be being made on Wednesday the 19th in readiness for the Saturday evening.

Items can be given directly to Kim Coveney or through your squad reps.

Blog 2127: Discussions with Coaching Staff

It is expected that from time to time parents will want to discuss issues with coaches, issues such as progress, performance or circumstance (either swimming or external).

Often catching a coach at the end of a session can be convenient for the swimmer, parent and coach.

However, please be mindful when requesting to speak to coaches of the following: -

1. Ensure the coach has finished the session

2. Give space to those already engaged in conversation with the coach

3. Ensure the environment is suitable for the discussion you wish to have

4. Be aware the coach may have other commitments and may not be able to talk with you there and then

If the coach can not talk with you immediately following the session alternative arrangements can be made to book a pre-planned and dedicated meeting with the coach, this can be done through your squad representative.

Blog 2112: Arena League

Can the following swimmers please let me know if they are available. The sheets have been up now for 2 weeks and the gala is this weekend. The Arena league is the one series of competition where we ask you to put the club first. You should be proud to be selected for the club to compete on a National level. The galas are the same 3 weekends every year (the second weekend of October, November and December) and this information is sent out to you every year on the gala programme in September, is on the blog and the website. The warm up is always 6pm unless stated otherwise. As the response this round has been so poor and leaves little time for me to find replacements if indeed you cannot swim.

Blog 2111: Thank you!

Another successful Long Eaton Open Meet with positive feed back from some of  the visiting clubs who had travelled from afar to take part in the Distance Meet. Thank you to those who contributed to the success of the day whether you baked a cake, supervised the warm-ups or did much, much more, and especially to those who continue to support and work at these Open events even though they no longer have a swimmer taking part!

Especially pleasing to see senior swimmers Bethanie Dennis, Christopher Stray and  our new Club Captain, Katie Tew, Officiating - an example to you all!!

Sunday January 25th is a date for your diary, the next Long Eaton Open Meet where we will need lots more help to ensure the event runs according to our Licensing Conditions. Put it in your new diary now and make a New Year's Resolution to get involved and watch out for ways you can do this. Due to the changes in the ASA programme this will be our last January Meet so let us finish in style.
