Blog 2241: Away meet
As most of you are aware I have changed our end of season final open meet to an away meet. If we do not get enough entries to make this away meet run we will not be doing a different open meet in its place. It is important for swimmers and parents to understand that the selection of galas is the head coaches responsibility and only galas approved by the head coach will be attended by Long Eaton swimmers. Swimmers who attend galas without the coaches prior approval that are not on the gala programme are in breach of club rules. There are many reasons why I have changed our final meet to an away meet here are a few.
The standard of swimmer we as a club are producing now is going to need away meets as part of their performance pathway development, so when they make major teams they will have experience of going away to a meet without parental support.
Those thinking of going on camp who haven't been before, an away meet provides an ideal opportunity to test the water.
A successful homeland away meet will lead to going abroad for a meet, which will provide further experience swimmers need.
This meet is not normally over subscribed therefore we are more likely to get in on mass and we can ask for special privileges as we are traveling and staying away.
This meet has finals and the very exciting Skins event again providing more experience for our swimmers with the possibility of having a second swim.
It gives the swimmers a chance to compete in a focused team environment which has a massive effect on performance.
It gets the swimmers away from the monotony of competing in the same pools against the same swimmers every meet.
The hotel is right next door to the pool and the meal package they have given us is great value for money.
So we are looking for 20 swimmers to go to this meet and we need to get it booked ASAP so please let me know that you are interested before the month end. If we do not get enough interest it simply makes my job easier as I will only have to get swimmers ready for either club champs or Nationals and gives me an extra weekend to celebrate my birthday. So as you can see this is for your swimmers benefit not mine.

Blog 2236: ASA Adult Registration
We are currently preparing the annual membership return for the ASA.
Any adult members who are not the designated member for a swimmer need to make a payment of £15 if they wish to retain their membership of the club and the ASA.
This can be paid by cheque to the club post box at West Park or direct to the club bank account (the details are as per your standing order payments). Please let me know if you are paying direct.
Payment needs to be received by Friday 27th March to enable us to meet the cut-off date and avoid suspension.
If you are not sure if this applies to you please contact me on treasurer.lesc@hotmail.co.uk

Blog 2235: Away Gala
The club are looking at an away gala at the Taunton Deane Open Meet on July 11th/12th.
An away meet is where the team travel together with only coach and team managers; no parents travel to the gala.
The team will travel by mini bus on the Friday and stay at a hotel together; costings will be around £209 per swimmer including food. Event entries will be additional. Returning Sunday evening.
Even though this is a Level 3 meet, entries will be accepted first from those swimmers who qualify for Level 1/2 meets as this will be their focus meet for the season end or the last chance for race practice prior to National Championships.
Level 3 swimmers should be aiming for City of Derby B grade and all swimmers should be entering a full programme of events at the Club Championships.
A maximum of 20 swimmers will be going to Taunton Deane and the Head Coach will have the final selection if more than 20 apply, with things like behaviour, needs of the swimmer and a reward for supportive parents; after all we are looking after your kids for a whole weekend.
If you are interested please email Spen by the 31st of March.
No extensions or exceptions will be made to this deadline
