Blog 3030: Long Course Training

With Derbyshire Long Course Championships coming up, the club have secured 2 lanes at Loughborough University during half term on, Wednesday 29th October from 10am to 11am. This is an excellent opportunity for those swimmers who normally do not train long course to experience the pool size, it does feel different to short course. The cost of this session is £5 to cover the pool hire. There are 24 places available which will go to swimmers who are competing at Derbyshire LC Champs, and who do not normally train Long Course, if spaces are available after that then they will be open to other swimmers. To secure your place please email me.

Blog 3022: Arena League

2 Amazing performances from Long Eaton SC last weekend in the National Arena League. With the majority of the junior side being at the  bottom end of the age brackets it was always going to be a tough ask, but with swimmers missing as well it made the task harder. I was delighted with how the all the swimmers stepped up and this can only be seen as a massive improvement within the club. Spearheaded by our strong Open age group the A team finished 3rd in a close round, with the B team gaining more points than was predicted and fighting hard against other clubs A teams. The reports I have had back so far have been good in terms of team spirit, behavior and skills, doing the little details right adds up to big improvements. We now need to push on again for the second round and hopefully with swimmers now available and returning from injury we can up the level of our performance once more. Keep up the smart work, focus on skills, technique and attendance and we can keep pushing Long Eaton SC forward.

Blog 3021: Trent Closure

Trent College will be closing for essential maintenance from Monday 17th October through to Saturday 29th October. As the notice we have been given was so short the club have made the following arrangements to provide as much training with as little disruption as possible to the squad structure and swimmers training needs. We are going to use this time for a real focus on starts and turn skills for the younger squads.

Wednesday 19th October West Park
National Squad 6 lanes 7:30-9:30 pm
Midland Squad Turns Practice Deep End Pit 7:30-8:30pm
County Squad Turns Practice Deep End Pit 6:30-7:30pm

The following week will be the same with the addition of

Thursday 27th October West Park 7:30-8:30

(scouts are not in as it is half term)

It is going to be crowded and noisy so please respect your team mates and enable the squads to change around with as little distruption as possible. Blog 3015: Time Trials Saturday Morning

Please note that there will be no pool warm-up on Saturday morning.

The 7-8am land training session will take place as normal, JD2 swimmers should ensure that they arrive in time to complete their pre-pool routines before they race. However, NO SWIMMERS WILL BE ALLOWED ONTO THE POOLSIDE BEFORE 8AM.

Swimming will start at 8am prompt, so those swimmers in the first few heats must ensure that they are ready on time. There is no leeway for us to overrun so we will not be able to delay races for swimmers who are not ready.

Blog 3007: Great start

2 competitive weekends into the season and LESC are looking great. Loads of really impressive performances in the pool over the 2 weekends but what was more impressive was the professional manor in which the swimmers conducted themselves. I asked a question of my squad at our squad meeting about what they thought made an Olympic Champion, they came up with lots of good answers but the most important one is doing the small details right daily. Over that last 2 weekends we got a lot of small details right. Turning up before time, having the appropriate kit, knowing the events and warming up properly for them, pre pool, post race recovery despite not having a warm down pit, setting process goals, understanding that early season swims very rarely add up to personal best performance and not being slaves to the clock, keeping the area we were sat in clean, relaxing between races instead of running about playing football, keeping hydrated, eating to keep fueled up, reporting on time for races despite not having a team manager, seeing the coach before and after the race, setting realistic process goals and buying into the processes, focusing on the process goals and achieving them even when tired. I could go on but I think you get the picture that there is more to swimming than what is done in the pool and we as a club were excellent at it. We are getting some great young leaders who are showing the age group swimmers how to behave and achieve success, you are credit to your club. Now is not the time to celebrate this though now is time to continue and push our every day details further and become even more professional and the highest standard setters around. Keep making your coaches proud.

Blog 3003: Long Eaton Swimming Club Distance Meet

This Sunday we are holding our long distance meet at Queen's Street Derby.

This is an significant event in our calendar, so a well organised and well run day is very important to us.

It is a great time to get involved in club activities, members support and contribution is critical to ensuring a successful day.

There are a number of roles which do not require a qualification but are equally as important to the day as the officials.

If you do have a few spare hours on the Sunday and can help please email chair@longeatonswimmingclub.org.uk

Blog 3001: Ghoul in the Pool

Due to a large number of withdrawals from this event, Belper have contacted us offering the spaces created by this. We have already processed the Chesterfield and Sheffield entries. As a coach I would  very much like swimmers to enter this gala as well, but I understand the financial and time constraints on families. Given the fact that we have already removed the original entries from our files, we would require brand new entry forms for this gala. If you do still wish to compete in the gala please have your entries in by Friday 7th October. This gala will not replace the Chesterfield or Sheffield galas so if you only can afford the entry or time for one of these meets it will be those, the Belper meet is now a bonus.
