Blog 3337: Renewal and training time changes
Some will have observed that renewal notices normally issued in August have not yet been this year.
The reason is that we had been waiting for new pool hire charges to be agreed but also changes to the West Park pool schedule to be finalised.
The new time table will be launched imminently and squad training times will be updated on the website very soon.
Letters with updated training fees will be sent over the next few weeks. In the meantime, please can you ensure that your standing orders continue for your current fees.
Thank you for your patience

Blog 3335: LESC House Cup
Whilst I am proud of what this club has achieved I am always looking at ways to improve the swimmers and club. Some say Im never happy, but Im actually never satisfied which is why Im always pushing forward.
Hopefully the house cup will help us improve as a club, as swimmers and have some fun whilst doing this.
The onus will be on the swimmers to take responsibility of their actions, behavior, attendance and improvement, supported by coaches and parents.
All swimmers in JD1,JD2, County, Midland and National squad will be divided up into "houses". Swimmers will receive marks based on the following.
Attendance - scored as a percentage of available sessions both land and pool when swimmers complete pre and post as well.
Listening - how well have you behaved during the session
Coach ability - The ease of improvement of skills etc
Team Spirit - have you supported your team mates in their goals, do you know your, your teammates, your squads goals, have you encouraged your team mates and congratulated your team mates during the session.
At galas swimmers will be scored on Process improvements "5 fly kicks every wall etc", Race Tactics and Outcome in terms of season and personal bests, the last 2 scoring more marks at the focus meets of the end of each cycle whilst the first 2 will score more in earlier meets. The more events you do the more points you can earn. Swimmers will earn bonus points again for team spirit and behavior, attitude and how they do things right around their races, i.e. pre pool, recovery, warm down, nutrition, hydration.
We will be emailing the scoring sheets which swimmers will get coaches to mark at training sessions or galas. For processes and tactics swimmers are to fill these based on conversations with coaches, the more they do this the more knowledgeable they will be become and they will be able to set their own process and tactics goals.
I have secured prizes for top 3 overall individual point scorers and will be looking at prizes for the top house and individual each cycle as well as the top house over the season.

Blog 3330: Neil's Sponsored Swim - Update
Many of you may remember Neil Meadows who was a member of Trident and Long Eaton for many years. Neil is to take part in the BLDSA Two Way Windermere Challenge on Saturday, involving exactly what it says in the name, from Ambleside to Fell Foot and back again - no wet-suits allowed.
The race starts at 5pm and the 21 miles are swum throughout the night, without stopping, food and drink being thrown to him from a support boat.
Neil is raising money for Parkinson's UK and The Silver Line, a helpline supporting isolated and lonely elderly people, and hopes to raise £1,200.
You can help by sponsoring Neil via uk.virginmoneygiving.com/NeilMeadows
Update: Neil has already passed his target, but don't let that stop you.
Thanks to all who have donated so far.

Blog 3328: Team Bath Open Meet - 17th to 19th November
This meet is both Level 3 and level 1 50m Competition. It's a great opportunity for the majority of the club (National, Midland and County squads, with some JD2) to go away together and compete as a big team. Its a pool we have never been to before and will be against a lot of clubs we don't normally compete against, so this will take the swimmers out of their comfort zone, which will mean improved performances. This will not be an "away" gala, therefore swimmers and families will need to provide their own transportation and hotels. There are a lot of hotels near the pool, with the Premier Inn being on the same leisure park as the pool. For entry details please see the link below. We would like all entries for this event to be in by 1st October 2017.

Blog 3326: Swim Camp
Unfortunately we do not have sufficient interest to run our proposed swim camp in February 2018.
The intention is to run a long haul camp in February 2019 with the intended destination of https://www.facebook.com/pages/Thanyapura-Sports-Hotel-Phuket-Thailand/1745944402290113?nr
The proposal is that camp will be held around the February half term dates for Derbyshire https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/education/schools/term_dates_school_holidays/default.asp?VD=FromHomepage with a duration of 10 to 14 days depending on flights and availability.
We have given this much notice to allow adequate time for planning and financing.
Obviously we will need to know numbers for accurate costing an indication of interest now is not a irreversible commitment but is essential in providing likely costs.
If you are interested please email chair@longeatonswimmingclub.org.uk
Again this camp is for 2019
