Blog 3371: House Cup Houses

The house have been drawn and I will release them shortly. There are 5 houses in total. I have had suggestions for house names and the most popular one so far is names of sharks i.e Tiger House, Hammerhead House etc. I will take further suggestions over the next week and the coaches will chose the winners. The names will be drawn to each house at random following the coaches choice.

Blog 3370: Competing and House Cup forms

Following feedback from the weekend I am asking all parents to not compare their children with other clubs children. Saturday night is a prime example of why not to do this. This gala was for novice swimmers, which we sent; many competing for the first time. However other clubs did not do this and had Regional Qualifiers competing; you may as well compare Usain Bolt to other dads at a school sports day! It is very dangerous to compare swimmers from our club to others as you do not know how many sessions the other swimmer is doing, what standard they are at or how long they have been swimming. Instead, focus on your own child's improvement. That is where the House Cup process sheets come in. None were handed in to the coaching staff at the weekend! These sheets will allow swimmers to focus on certain aspects of the races and the coach give relevant feedback to the swimmer. It is the swimmer's responsibility to fill these and hand them to the coach before the race and collect them after. This way it ensures feedback is given. Coaches cannot go chasing swimmers all over the building to give feedback as they will miss other swimmers' races if they do.

Overall we had an amazing weekend of racing, so please focus on the positive, praise improvement, and support your cub and coaches. If your swimmer doesn't understand processes it is more important to take the sheet to the coach on deck before a race and fill it out with them. Keep up the great work and improve where you can.

Blog 3363: Changes to training Sunday 24th September

Due to the Falcon ASC Open Meet taking place there will be no training for County Squad on Sunday 24th September.

All other sessions will continue as normal.

Blog 3362: Falcon Open Meet Important Information

Anyone attending the Falcon Open meet this weekend, please read the following information received from Falcon ASC:

Hello All
Thank you for entering our annual Open Sprint Meet this coming Sunday.

We are going to split the warm up sessions as follows:
8:25am-8.40am -Girls aged 9 to 11 years inclusive
8:40am-8:55am – Girls aged 12 years & over
8:55 – 9:10am – Boys aged 9 to 11 years inclusive
9:10 – 9:25am Boys aged 12 years & over

PM Session
1:25pm -1:40 pm -Boys aged 9 to 11 years inclusive
1.40pm – 1.55pm – Boys aged 12 years & over
1:55pm – 2:10pm – Girls aged 9 to 11 years inclusive
2:10pm – 2:25pm – Girls aged 12 years & over

Please note the start of the afternoon warm up may change and will be confirmed by the announcer following completion of the morning session.
A reminder that all swimmers need to bring suitable clothing and footwear to wear from the Marshall's station in the main hall to the poolside. The Leisure Centre will be open to the public on the day for other events/activities and they are quite strict about the attire of swimmers walking around the public areas. We also have to walk past the main door which will be a little chilly. So pool tops, shorts, flip flops and a spare towel for taking onto poolside for drying after each swim would be appreciated. There will be tubs provided at the start for swimmers to place their belongings into.
The dryside changing rooms in the main hall will be open to both us and the general public but the wetside changing rooms will be open to our swimmers only. Can we ask that only swimmers enter the wetside changing rooms please. If an adult needs to enter then please ask someone from Falcon to arrange a DBS approved escort for you.
There will be a limited number of chairs in the main hall so if you want to be sure of not sitting on the floor, then please bring along a camping chair or something similar. Team Managers may find it helpful to bring some sort of clothes airer for hanging towels on between races.
Team Managers are reminded that unless you have purchased a coaches pass, you will be charged the spectators entrance fee and that only those wearing coaches passes, will be allowed directly onto poolside and be provided with start lists/running sheets. I'm afraid we won't be selling coaches passes on the door unless they have been booked in advance.
No land based group warm up is allowed on poolside. Whilst I appreciate you will want your swimmers to warm up and enter the pool directly, there really isn't enough space for everyone, so any group warm up outside of the pool will need to take place in the main hall.
Parking is limited at the Leisure Centre and the car park is owned by Ashfield District Council so it is almost certain there will be traffic wardens present at some point during the day. Please do not park outside of or on the white lines, in a disabled bay unless you have the correct badge, in front of any fire exits, on the grass verges, in the bus spaces (unless you have a bus!) or in any other prohibited place. Parking is also available at the tram station car park opposite Tesco which is a short walk away from the Leisure Centre.
There will not be a catering van attending this year. Tea, coffee, soft drinks, water and a selection of cakes & children's sweets will be on sale in the main hall. Also a raffle & Tombola.
Sporty Swim & Swimzi will be selling swimwear etc. All  will be stationed in the main hall with the swimmers.
Note that in the interests of child protection, no photography or video will be allowed.
This year, as last year, there will be Top Boy, Top Girl & Top Visiting Club trophies with 2 runners up in the Top Boy & Top Girls categories. In the event of a tie, then the individual trophies will be awarded according to the largest winning distance in the 100IM. Top Club according to the number of first places awarded and so on.
If you have any questions please let me know by email. I will be checking my emails up to around 6pm on Saturday night ( at a gala after 6pm) after that could you text on my mobile  07964729687  please.
Any withdrawals would be appreciated early by text if at all possible but there will be withdrawal forms on the paying desk up to the start of each warm up session.
Finally a huge thank you for supporting us once again and to wish all the swimmers the very best of luck. We hope you all have a fantastic day.

Blog 3361: Gala advice

With the first outing of the season, here is some basic advice for swimmers competing this season.

Swimmers will need at least 2 towels for the day.

Lots of fluid preferably water or squash, not lucazade or other energy drinks.

Avoid sugary snacks, pastry and chocolate. Nuts, seeds or fruit the preferred option. In terms of meals the easier to digest on the day the more use you will get from the food. Get up early to make sure you have a good breakfast to get energy stores up for the day. Wholewheat Pasta, Jacket Potato (sweet potato is even better), Rice, Quinoa, Veg and Oats are the best Carbs to have on the day, these will keep energy levels stable throughout the day. Chicken or Tuna are probably the best meats on the day.

A spare Hat and Goggles in a bag that they can take behind the block with them in case their race ones break is advisable.

Team Managers take care of the swimmers throughout the day and swimmers should report to them if they need to know when they are swimming or if they are allowed to go to the toilet etc. Swimmers should not go to parents except at lunch or the end of the day.

All cameras including mobile phones are not allowed poolside.

Overall enjoy racing, don't worry about outcomes, think about how to get better and execute the process, this way outcomes take care of themselves. Support your team mates that, includes parents supporting all Long Eaton Swimmers.

Remember from the moment you get up to the moment you get home up are representing Long Eaton Swimming Club so do so with pride and professionalism, keep your area clean and tidy act like a champion and you will become one.

Blog 3360: House Cup

The house Cup started from the first session of the new time table. Swimmers should print off their attendance sheets and take them to every session, this way the coach in charge of the session can sign them off. At the end of each week hand the attendance sheet to the main squad coach.

For Galas Print off the process sheet and fill in processes for the events the swimmer is competing in. The processes should be things like " I am only going to breath 8 times on 50 free" " I will do 4 fly kicks of each wall on 100 fly" " I will touch with both hands on Breaststroke" etc. Swimmers take this sheet to the coaches at the start of each race and whilst the swimmer is racing the coach will fill in or tick the processes off and give the swimmer a score for each race, swimmers report to the coach afte3r racing and take the sheet away. After the gala get the sheet back and then hand it to the main squad coach who will transfer the scores to the over all house cup sheet.

Whilst it seems like a lot of work it really isnt and will get easier each time as processes are normally repeated or adjusted i.e. 8 breaths on 50 fr moved to 6 breaths and eventually to no breaths .

In terms of times these are all recorded on the British Swimming site for licensed galas (none licensed galas are not recorded so are only used for novice swimmers to gain experience) the link for this is below.

Due to the LESC Club Championships 400m events taking place tomorrow evening please note the following changes to training tomorrow:

All pool training is cancelled for all squads, however land training is on as normal for National and Midlands Squad.

Blog 3348: Midland Championships Winter Meet

Please find below the link to the qualifying times and schedule for the Midlands Championships Winter Meet. Please note the following from the Meet Organisers:

Please be aware that this year all Region events are being swum long course to lead into the Swim England Winter Meet which is long course, leading to the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast Australia in 2018. The pool we have available does not have a swim down facility so there is a need to incorporate swim down breaks in the schedule. For this reason it has been necessary to tighten qualifying times.

The entry forms are not available as yet so I will add these to the blog as soon as I can.
