With the first outing of the season, here is some basic advice for swimmers competing this season.
Swimmers will need at least 2 towels for the day.
Lots of fluid preferably
water or squash, not lucazade or other energy drinks.
Avoid sugary snacks,pastry and chocolate. Nuts, seeds or fruit the preferred option. In terms of meals the easier to
digest on the day the more use you will get from the food. Get up early to make sure you have a good breakfast to get energy stores up for the day. Wholewheat Pasta, Jacket Potato (sweet potato is even better), Rice, Quinoa, Veg and Oats are the best Carbs to
have on the day, these will keep energy levels stable throughout the day.
Chicken or Tuna are probably the best meats on the day.
A spare Hat and
Goggles in a bag that they can take behind the block with them in case their race ones break is advisable.
Team Managers take care of the
swimmers throughout the day and swimmers should report to them if they need
to know when they are swimming or if they are allowed to go to the
toilet etc. Swimmers should not go to parents except at lunch or the end
of the day.
All cameras including mobile phones are not allowed
poolside.
Overall enjoy racing, don't worry about
outcomes, think about how to get better and execute the process, this
